Traffic management across New Zealand’s network of state highways and local roads is fundamental to keeping people safe on our roads. Our roads are used daily by vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, and have many people working on them. Changes to the operation of these roads under temporary traffic management is a core activity on the network, providing safety and access to all road users and workers.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi) is responsible for setting the mandatory requirements for the safe and efficient management and operation of temporary traffic management (TTM) on all roads in New Zealand. The Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (CoPTTM) is Waka Kotahi’s best practice guidelines and statutory requirements for temporary traffic management in New Zealand.

The CoPTTM Review Programme is in place to review and update the NZ CoPTTM to ensure its effectiveness and suitability for industry use. This work programme commenced in May 2020 and is expected to be complete in 2021.
