Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) services update

The COVID-19 situation in New Zealand continues to evolve and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is committed to supporting safety during this time.

Support is available for essential services requiring vehicle inspections during this time. There is also information available about extensions to WoFs/ CoFs, driver licensing, endorsements and more in our frequently asked questions. Please continue to check this page for updates.

People who have any COVID-19 related concerns should call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice.   

We want to let you know that our Contact Centre is closed, along with all Transport Agency offices. This includes most 0800 numbers.

For urgent incidents solely related to issues impacting travel on our state highways, 0800 4 HIGHWAYS is available 24 hours with reduced capacity.

Driver licensing services are postponed during the Stage 4 alert and we will continue to review the situation. Customers with tests already booked will be rescheduled once services resume.

Other online services remain available.

From 24 March, all public transport services operating (bus, rail, ferry) are ‘fare free’. Allowing free access to public transport will protect the health and safety of frontline public transport staff by removing the need to handle cash. It also ensures free transport for essential workers requiring access to their jobs and for the general public using public transport to access essential services (e.g. for medical care). We are working closely with councils on the details of how they manage their public transport services.
